Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a safe and highly effective physical exfoliation procedure. It is performed by a board-certified dermatologist or a licensed esthetician who specializes in this procedure. It requires the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently “shave” the skin’s surface. This procedure removes the top most layers of dead skin along with the vellus hair.
A question that is frequently asked is, “Will my hair grow back thicker?” Vellus hairs, which are what some call peach fuzz, will not grow back thicker. Terminal hair can grow back thicker and darker- that it why we don’t advise dermaplaning the eyebrows. Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types accept acneic skin.
Benefits of Dermaplaning:
- Immediately diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Removes the vellus hair. Makeup goes on much smoother
- Increases absorption of topical product
- Helps to minimize uneven skin tone or acne scars
- Safe for pregnant and lactating moms who cannot use chemical peels
- Primes skin for chemical peels, if that is added to the treatment
- Creates a healthier more radiant appearance
I recommend dermaplaning once a month. It is not necessary to overdo it, let your skin complete the rejuvenation process and nourish it with serums, lotions and masks!
